Winsford had finished the 2022 season in a very creditable 3rd, place - possibly content that they had just missed out on automatic promotion to the competitive Division1.

As it turned out though, the league winners Bishops Hull moved up to the full Somerset league, meaning the West Somerset 1st division was a team short - send for Winsford!

Our opening match against Brompton Ralph was a portent of much of the rest of the season as bad weather rained it off.

We then moved into what appeared to be wedding season as a lack of availability over a succession of Saturdays left the team sorely depleted, and we lost 5 out of the next 6 fixtures, our solitary win coming against Bagborough.

The team was unperturbed as they had had a terrible start to the previous season, then came on strongly in the second half. And it appeared to be following the same pattern in 2023 as July gave us wins against Over Stowey and high flying Bagborough (again) - the season's stand out performance as we won by 104 runs. Sadly though July also saw the start of the rainy season as three matches were cancelled, and this trend continued with two more being cancelled in August.

The sun did though came out for fixtures against the top two teams, Kilve and Holford, who both comprehensively beat us.

Two final defeats condemned Winsford to relegation, however it must be noted that they lost six matches - a third of their season - to the weather, where their nearest competitors only lost two each.

And, some excellent performances, such as the Bagborough games, Winsford showed that on their day, and when able to pick from a full squad, the team has some outstanding performers and must be looking forward to next season with optimism

The ground also hosted a very well attended Interhunt tournament, held in memory of Timmy Gill, and a victorious 20/20 friendly against a travelling team from Roche, Cornwall which featured some of our younger squad members playing along side the first team.
